"Punk" – Sold Artwork by Surreal24seven

Surreal paper mache sculptures of two women with snake tongues, set against a cityscape. Punk-inspired text and images reflect the rebellious spirit of 1980s New York, celebrating freedom and individuality.

‘Punk’ is an homage to the freedom and rebellious spirit that defined 1980s New York City’s punk rock scene. Inspired by Patti Smith’s quote, ‘Punk rock is the freedom to create, freedom to be successful, freedom to not be successful, freedom to be who you are,’ this artwork captures the raw energy and vibrant visual culture of the movement.

As a 14-year-old, I ventured from the suburbs to Greenwich Village, immersing myself in the pulsating heart of punk culture. The streets and bars buzzed with anthems of rebellion, while walls were covered with bold artwork promoting local bands. This visual explosion left a lasting impression on me, shaping both my teenage years and my artistic journey.

The freedom that punk offered—freedom to create, to be yourself, and to break boundaries—became the foundation of my work. From the vibrant hair to the unconventional clothing, the aesthetic of punk speaks to individuality and nonconformity, values that continue to influence my art today.

Though ‘Punk’ has found a new home on SuperRare, explore more of my unique creations in my Available Art section or visit my Sold Works page to see the art that has already found its place with collectors.
